What If Birth Didn’t Feel Like an Unannounced Exam?

Updated: Aug 14

Imagine being told you have an important exam tomorrow - but with no study guide, no indication of what will be tested, and no time to prepare. That’s how birth can often feel: a momentous, life-changing event arriving without a clear roadmap, leaving many feeling uncertain and overwhelmed.

I’m Rachel, a doula with 15 years’ experience supporting families through every kind of birth. My mission is simple: to ensure every parent understands their options and feels completely in control of their birth experience - whether that’s a freebirth at home, a homebirth with professional support, or a hospital birth with bespoke preparation.

Why So Many Feel Unprepared

The reality is that the healthcare system and conventional advice can be confusing and intimidating. There is an expectation that you’ll know what to do when the time comes, yet few receive clear, personalised guidance. This uncertainty creates pressure and often robs parents of the calm confidence they deserve.

I regularly hear from clients feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information and the weight of decisions. It’s no surprise that many feel like they’re walking into the unknown, unsure whether they’ll “pass” or be let down by circumstances outside their control.

Your Birth, Your Choice

Personally, I am passionate about supporting homebirths, a choice I respect deeply and attend to in person. However, I also offer sophisticated, high-end birth preparation for those who want thorough, tailored guidance to navigate the options available and create a birth experience uniquely their own.
